Hi, everybody!
Welcome to teachermompreneur.com – where teachers and teacher-moms gather home-based business ideas!
This site came about with teachers and teacher-moms in mind because as a full-time teacher, I’ve tried ways of earning additional income. Every business I’ve tried took a lot of courage, tenacity, time and focus.
Hopefully, by sharing my experiences, the process of thinking of, setting up and pursuing a business becomes less daunting and less time-consuming for you.
I Love My Full-time Job But…
Since making the decision to pursue a career in teaching, I’ve never wanted to turn back to a corporate career. I felt that this was my life’s purpose and have been at it for 13 years (as of this writing). Needless to say, I love my full-time teaching job!
It has its many benefits and perks: being around young minds, hearing out their ideas, never being bored with the daily mental, physical and emotional challenges.
The downside to it though is the meager monetary rewards.
From my office job, I was led to a teaching job that cut my monthly salary in half. It was a decision I made with lots of prayer and discernment. Despite the challenges, I haven’t turned back since.
Most Teachers Need Secondary Sources of Income
To compensate or augment my teacher’s salary, home-based business ideas which required low start-up capital, were my go to sources of secondary income. I first tried one-on-one tutorials (which started with a marketing plan that was a failure from the get go. More on that on another post.). I even took a real estate seminar which made me earn commissions for referring buyers.
With our growing family’s needs (and forced leaves due to delicate pregnancies), I started to get more creative and so I tried other business ventures.
I know I am not the only teacher with financial challenges. I have many teacher-friends who love their jobs but resort to other sources of income to support themselves.
The Birth of a Website
I thought about other teachers, especially the ones who’ve just passed the Licensure Exam for Teachers. Are there teaching jobs out there waiting for them? How do I do my part in helping them or other teachers who need or want to set up a business?
Teachermompreneur.com is the answer.
I created this space where teachers can collaborate and share business ideas and experiences, cheer each other on for that needed push to pursue a business of their own and maybe even connect with a network, to market, advertise or even partner up to create their own businesses!
This is the start!
